About Blues & Roots Celebration

The Bull Durham Blues Festival has a new look! The Hayti Heritage Center presents its “Blues and Roots Celebration,” a two-day festival honoring the legacy of African American contributions to the Blues and Roots music genres.

On Friday, October 5th at 6:00pm kicks-off with a Juke Joint themed cocktail reception and performances which will highlight the legacy of Roots & Blues with Justin Robinson of the Carolina Chocolate Drops and Baron Tymas’s guitarist and professor at North Carolina Central University. Proceeds from this reception will benefit growing the roots and blues program at Hayti.

On Saturday, October 6th at 7:00pm vocalist and NCCU professor Lenora Helm and Lana Garland will perform an original production called Blues Women, then the iconic B.B. King Blues Band featuring Tito Jackson, guitarist-songwriter, vocalist and member of the famed Jackson family. The Band will perform music of the late, great B.B. King along with a medley of hits by the legendary Jackson 5.
