The Bull City Slam Team tied for third place in the finals at the 2018 Southern Fried Southeastern Poetry Slam in San Antonio, TX. The regional team poetry slam festival started Wednesday June 13 and ran through Saturday June 16. The Bull City Slam Team competed faced 3 other teams in finals. Those teams were Slamaggedon (Baltimore, MD), New Jeru (Newark, NJ), and Da Poetry Lounge (Los Angeles, CA). This is the 5th time the team has made finals at Southern Fried since it was hosted in Durham, NC in 2009. The team has won the regional competition 2 times (2010, 2014). This year’s team consists of poets Ayanna Albertson, Brandon “Ishine” Evans, Curtis Lavon, Eric “Lyrically Blessed” Thompson, and Ashley “Milli” Lumpkin. The team is coached by Dasan Ahanu and assisted by Wendy Jones. Next, the team prepares for national completion in August at the National Poetry Slam held this year in Chicago, IL and presented by Poetry Slam Inc.
Southern Fried is the largest regional team poetry slam in the country and is celebrating its 26th year in existence. The competition features teams primarily from across the southeast and also includes teams from across the country. More information can be found at www.southernfriedpoetryslam.com.
