A letter from the founder of Triangle Friends of African American Arts

I wanted to share some photos from last Sunday’s event, This is Ballet! Becoming a Professional Dancer. Most of the attendees had never been to the Hayti Heritage Center and it was a great opportunity to tell them about its important history. Everyone took a moment to view your new exhibit.

It was a wonderful day. The event was attended by 18 children and their families. We had a panel discussion with parents of children who became professional dancers and there was a dance performance by a Carolina Ballet ballerina who also taught two workshops for the children. We have already had a success story. We were able to help one of the participants get a scholarship to the Raleigh School of Ballet. Thank you for allowing us to host our event at the Hayti Heritage Center. It was the perfect venue and it would have been difficult to provide this free event to the community without your support.

All the best,
