NCCU’s Departments of Music, Theater and Dance, and Art MLK Celebration

The Hayti-NCCU Partnership presents NCCU’s Departments of Music, Theater and Dance, and Art who will collaborate to celebrate the cultural legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on January 15th, 2019.  The free concert begins at 6.30 pm and will be a program highlighting Dr. King’s life, his love of the arts as represented in Spirituals, text, poems, and visual arts, and how these art forms supported those tireless activists who journeyed with him to achieve civil liberties and freedom. Featured are students performing in a combined choir comprising NCCU’s University Choir, NCCU’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble, and Music Department instrumentalists.

The Theatre Dept MLK presentations (1) A choreographed dance to Dr. King’s speech “Unjust Evil & Futile War” by The Dance Repertory Co. at NCCU choreographed by the Modern Dance IV students under the direction of Kristi Johnson; a scene from “The Peacemaker” by Arnold Pinnix; a poem, ‘Fit for a King’ by Jeryl Prescott Sales – under the direction of Dr. Asabi; and a showing of art from NCCU art students.
