Pops McGhee, a staple at the Hayti Heritage Center, was born in Mississippi and raised in Tennessee. After all of his children were grown, Pops jumped on a Southern Railways freight car in Tennessee and jumped out at Pettigrew and Roxboro in Durham, North Carolina. At that time, he met a lady friend blues singer and has been right here in Durham ever since.
