“Yesterday: A Photography Retrospective”
by
Chapel Hill photographer Thomas Earl Bynum
July 7th, 2017 thru September 8th, 2017

Thomas Earl Bynum was born and raised in Chapel Hill, NC. He developed a love of history and photography at a young age and combined his two interests to photograph old buildings and artifacts that he saw during his travels throughout Alamance, Chatham, Durham and Orange counties. From his first camera given to him by a local businessman to a new 35 mm given to him by his wife and daughter, Earl has continued to take color and black and white pictures of historic places and things. He is also the official photographer for his church, St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Chapel Hill. He is an accomplished videographer as well. “I love taking pictures. A photographer preserves time by creating moments in time. By capturing an image at a certain angle, with certain lighting, against a certain backdrop, the image tells a story that helps shape how that subject will be remembered.”
